Celebrating 1 year of NCC Cyprus
The NCC-CY was created with the adoption of the European Regulation (EU) 2021/887 and assumes an important role to actively contribute through its actions to improve and maintain cybersecurity resilience in the Republic of Cyprus. It also actively contributes to the achievement of the objectives of the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC), which consists of the National Coordination Centres (NCCs) of the EU Member States and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).
In just one year of operation, the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre has launched several multidimensional actions to strengthen cybersecurity. First of all, it has announced the first - pilot sponsorship project, in collaboration with the Research Innovation and Foundation (RIF) with a total budget of 1 million euros, aimed at enhancing cybersecurity levels of small and medium enterprises in the country.
In addition, the NCC-CY started the process of establishing the Cyprus Cybersecurity Community. The purpose of the Community is to bring together stakeholders from the private sector, public sector, industry, academia and research to maximise the benefits of combining knowledge, skills and experience in cybersecurity issues, while encouraging active participation and contribution to research and education projects with the ultimate aim of facilitating the dissemination of information, skills and competences among its members.
Another important action is the creation of the Cyber-Hygiene Framework, a system of certification and implementation of basic security measures for SMEs, with the aim of increasing their level of cybersecurity and enabling them to respond effectively to the modern challenges of the digital age.
In the meantime, the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre also runs the European N4CY Programme (for the Establishment and Operation of the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre of Cyprus), which is co-funded by the Digital Europe Programme and the Republic of Cyprus.
It is also noteworthy that Cyprus was among the first 5 countries across Europe that established and staffed their National Cyber Security Coordination Centre, and at the same time managed to secure funding in this direction.
As the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre we are committed to continue our efforts to make Cyprus a leader in the field of Cybersecurity services, while ensuring a reliable and protected cyberspace for businesses and the wider civil society, undertaking awareness raising activities, providing financial and/or other support especially to SMEs and encouraging the development of research and innovation in the field of Cybersecurity in our country.
